What is the most enjoyable part of your job?
I enjoy the variety of guests we get coming to the hotel. I get to meet lots of people in my job and they’re all here for a different reason. After having several meetings, I get to learn a bit more about them and their story. I hear all about how they first met, proposals, war stories and all sorts. I love to see the black and white photos that guests bring in, I think they have so much character to them.
What are your favourite items of food/drink items on the menu?
I’m a fan of the traditional roast beef & Yorkshire pudding. It’s very popular on our private dining menu for functions and it flies out of the kitchen on the Sunday lunch menu too. You can’t mistake that roast dinner aroma as you walk through the kitchen, it reminds me of when my Mum used to make a Sunday Lunch without fail every week for us. Hopefully, it will be a tradition I can start when I eventually have a family of my own.
Which event or time of year do you love most at the Hotel?
In the latter half of the year people suddenly start thinking of Christmas plans, this is where our fabulous Christmas party nights come in to play! We fill up quickly and last year we were able to book up to 200 guests per night in our lovely Strand view area. There’s a lot of time and detail that goes into the party nights bookings. To see it all go smoothly is a great feeling. A good time was had by all last year, so I’m expecting this year to be just as busy and hopefully see some familiar faces return!
What do you like doing outside of work?
Work can be a bit hectic during busy times like wedding season and Christmas so it’s important to fit in quality time with my fiancé and my family where possible. Even if it’s just a lunch out together or a games night at home. We’re all pretty competitive so this can be a tense evening! Also, after a shift at work, I like to go straight to the gym where I can get in some exercise and get some well needed ‘me’ time at the end of the day.
Who inspires you?
I wouldn’t like to pinpoint any one person who inspires me but there are a few people in my life who certainly motivate me and give me that push when I need it most!
